After your application has been created and distributed, there are remote services that you can use to communicate with it from your Make me Droid account.
These are good marketing tools to keep in touch with your customers/users, fidelize them, and acquire them.
An application is usually not static: through internet, it also gathers different kind of data and displays them using various layouts.
The remote/marketing services described below allow mobile devices to get live information, without going through an update mechanism.
Sharing and social networks
The share action, available as an action for your applications, lets you acquire new users. People that like your application can share your download link by email, SMS, etc.
Depending on the available application on users devices, you can also use the power of social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, to share advanced content (title, comment, picture...) and not only a link.
Don't forget to read our guide about social networks. Sharing is an action that cannot be ignored nowadays!
The interstitial content
The interstitial screen shows up in your application at launch time. You decide the frequency (shown at every launch, once a day, etc), and you build its content the way you want. Here are some examples:
You ask your users to share this application with their friends.
Your ask to subscribe to your newsletter.
You show your most recent news or product.
When you publish this kind of news, mobile devices get it on a screen when they start your application. News layout is embedded in the application, through the Daily news screen of the screen editor.
Once again, news information is displayed on screen using keywords. Title and message are most likely to be shown as text, whereas the URL field could be associated with a open web page action, allowing users to browse a web page after reading the news.
News have an expiration date after which they are not displayed any more in the applications. This is for example useful when you want to talk about a special event and stop displaying the news automatically right after the event is over. Only one news is active at a time.
The PUSH word means that information is pushed to users, while the traditional way lets users "pull" the information, looking for it by themselves instead of receiving it.
PUSH messages are sent to mobile devices instantaneously, and are shown in the notification bar of the phone. This is a very powerful tool but you need to use it with caution. Thanks to this feature, you can have a close and immediate contact with users, sending them short term effect information (incoming event, daily discount...), which is both great marketing wise (for you) and useful (for users).
Nevertheless, be very careful not sending too many messages of this kind, and sending appropriate messages, otherwise users could dislike it and sometimes uninstall your application because of this.
Events and offers
This remote service is helpful to spread news about your marketing offers and events, from Make me Droid to your application users.
Those events have a validity date (start, end), a title, a description. They can be attached to a web address, a phone number, etc. The information is shown in the events and offers control that you can put wherever you like on your screens.
Messaging panel allows interactions with the Messaging screen type.
It lists messages that have been sent by users, publicly or privately, and lets you participate by answering messages. As soon as you send an answer, it's available for mobile devices to view it.
Dynamic content is a content that you create and manage on Make me Droid, or that is read from an external source (a RSS news feed, your own website, etc). This content is not included (packaged) in the application, but instead it's read over internet every time this is necessary. This way you have total control over the information displayed in your application: you can change it every minute.
Dynamic content is usually used by dynamic list screen types. Dynamic list gets the dynamic content through internet, and displays it on the mobile device.
You setup information layout when you create a dynamic list in the screen designer. This means that the layout template to show information is put inside the application first, and later on, data are downloaded dynamically and displayed on screen according to that template.
Information that you create on the dynamic content page is used and displayed on page using keywords such as $[the_title]. For more information on this topic, please read the forms and form editor pages.
